Visible as a moderately bright and at first featureless glow in a sparse field of stars. The edges seemed ragged as stars began to resolve, they looked very 'peppery' i.e very faint and minute.
NGC7293-The Helix nebula 12 inch reflector
I observed this at the COAA in Portugal in 1998 and even then it was only seen as a very faint oval even with an OIII but the central hole was easily seen. The NNE side of the Helix was brighter than any other part but apart from this feature no other detail was seen due to the conditions.
M72 - 10 inch Newtonian with Watec
A small object on the monitor and quite irregular in shape probably a few minutes of arc across. There were several brighter stars across the globular in an elongated triangle pattern, these were set against a more granular backdrop. Two bright magnitude 12.0 and 12.3 stars were just south of the cluster and a magnitude 10.2 star, also the brightest in the field of view was seen close by to the east.
NGC7009 The Saturn nebula- 8.75 inch reflector
Easily seen at low power as a small elongated disc, even seen in the 10 x 50 finder scope! At 208x it was seen as a large, bright elliptical disc with a very prominent blue-green colour. It looked solid and I couldn't see the central star.
M2 - 10 inch Newtonian with Watec
This was a very detailed globular, it had a very bright nucleus with some brighter stars standing out from the background glow plus there were several brighter stars scattered around the globular. A magnitude 10.8 star lies just to the north and a couple of magnitude 11.5 stars to the east.
