This was difficult to observe only appearing as a very low surface patch about 4' across, I had to use a lumicon deep sky filter to boost the contrast of the galaxy, it was totally invisible without it ! At 81x the extremely faint light of NGC 69463 appeared unevenly bright and at 136x strongly suspected using averted vision faint spiral structure.
NGC 40 - 8.75 inch reflector
Seen as a small hazy star between two bright magnitude 9 and 10 stars. At 288x it is a large hazy ball about 3' across with defined edges and gradually brightening to a condensed core about 1' across. The magnitude 11.6 central star was easily seen and with careful viewing I suspected a ring or possibly a coiled structure! Unfiltered it is quite bright, the UHC filter enhances the view but strangely the OIII filter was not that good!
