Nicely seen at 144x as a moderately large ball peppered with stars and gradually brightening to a blazing nucleus with a few dozen faint stars emerging from the glow. At 208x it is fully resolved and at this power former granulation is resolved into stardust. A few long arms were seen on its south and southwest sides while the northern edge had a nice grouping of stars going down to threshold magnitudes.
M64 - the black eye galaxy - 10 inch reflector + Watec
This had the 'wow' factor, it was very detailed with an extremely bright nucleus, a short stubby central bar and an elongated ring. A bright spiral arm north of the nucleus, the inner side of this arm was very detailed while another bright spiral arm was seen north of the nucleus. There was an extensive outer glow with fainter spiral structure and a magnitude 11.3 star was seen to the east and a magnitude 14.9 star to the north. Three stars were seen hugging the edge of the northern side of M64 of magnitudes 14.8 and magnitudes 18.8 and 19.1 at the NE tip.
