NGC 2419 - the intergalactic wonder - 10 inch reflector + Watec
This object is called the intergalactic wonder because it lies at a distance of 300,000 light years and using the Watec it was seen as a dim circular patch of light but very granulated at first sight and careful viewing showed some resolution, the inner region was like white pepper on black velvet. The SSW side was resolved looking like it had some radiating arms and two brighter stars or clumps of stars were seen here, also the edges of the cluster were quite irregular and faded off. There were two magnitude 7.2 and 7.9 stars to the west and just south of the cluster was a group of magnitude 12 to 16 stars. I estimate the cluster to be a few arcminutes in diameter.
