M 33 was a spectacular sight appearing large, extremely knotty and fragmented, the nucleus was very bright and elongated N- S and had a few superimposed stars, this area was very granular. Some dark lanes were prominent around the nucleus, one running along the length then it curved around following the SSE arm and there was also a noticeable dark area just under the nucleus. The northern side of the galaxy was quite diffuse, a single arm stretched out to the North then curving around to the East pointing to the large emission nebula NGC 604 which appeared as a bright area with a diffuse outer shell, it looked like a tiny spiral galaxy! The rest of this side was diffuse. In contrast the southern side of M33 had an immense amount of detail, four spiral arms were seen with numerous tiny nebulous areas scattered along them stretching north then curving around to the west.
